Bangladesh Army Accused of Harassing Searches at Villagers’ Homes in Panchari

The Bangladesh Army has been accused of conducting harassing searches at the homes of two villagers in the Barkona area of Latiban Union, Panchari Upazila, Khagrachhari district.

The searches took place late Wednesday night, May 20, 2026.

The affected residents were identified as Krishna Muni Chakma, 50, and Rupayan Chakma, 32, both of Barkona village.

According to local sources, a 20-member army patrol from the Panchari Sub-Zone entered Barkona village at approximately 10:30 p.m. Soldiers searched Krishna Muni Chakma’s home at around 10:45 p.m. and, after finding nothing illegal, moved to Rupayan Chakma’s residence at approximately 11:10 p.m. No illegal items were recovered from either home.

Family members of Rupayan Chakma alleged that soldiers stole 350 taka in cash from his home during the search. Soldiers returned to their camp after the searches concluded, locals said.
