Members of the Bangladesh Army have taken up positions inside three schools in Sajek and Bangaltali unions of Baghaichari upazila, Rangamati district, prompting concern among teachers and parents that the deployments could disrupt classes and unsettle students, residents said.

The first reported incident occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2026, when roughly 30 soldiers from the Baghaihat Zone (14 BIR) moved into the Doujari Agalachhara area and later took up position at Doujari Agalachhara Private Primary School. Soldiers remained at the school at the time of reporting.

Residents said the troops broke through part of a fence surrounding the school’s field to enter the compound, despite a designated gate nearby, and then settled on the building’s veranda. Witnesses said soldiers called out to residents in search of someone holding the key to the school building; the village headman eventually had it delivered through a local youth.

A teacher at the school, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the fence had been put up to protect newly planted trees and banana saplings from grazing livestock.

“Today, army personnel arrived and broke part of that fence to enter the school compound, even though there was a designated entrance gate to the field,” the teacher said.

With classes scheduled to resume Thursday, the teacher said the soldiers’ presence could frighten students and complicate efforts to hold lessons as normal.

“Students may feel frightened if military personnel remain stationed at the school. It will also make it difficult for us to conduct classes,” the teacher said.

Separately, two army teams from the Karengatuli Sub-Zone took position around 7:30 p.m. at Betagichhara Government Primary School and Jarulchhari Junior Secondary School in Bangaltali Union, according to local sources.
