A detachment of army personnel has set up tents and taken up position adjacent to a government primary school near Barmachhari Bazar, located along the border of Laxmichhari Upazila in Khagrachhari and Kawkhali Upazila in Rangamati.
On Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2026, an 18-member troop led by Warrant Officer Mohammad Amir arrived at Barmachhari Bazar from the Khiram Army Camp under the Laxmichhari Zone. Shortly after their arrival, the troops pitched tents and camped in an area directly adjacent to the local government primary school.
It remains unclear whether the military presence is part of a planned operation. However, the deployment has triggered growing tension and anxiety among local residents.
Parents and guardians have expressed deep concern, fearing that the military presence next to the school grounds will disrupt the educational environment and disturb classes.
