Allegations of verbal abuse and misconduct by Bangladesh Army personnel involving a local High School teacher have emerged from Shilchhari area under Betbunia Union of Kawkhali Upazila, Rangamati.
According to local sources, a 12-member army team led by Captain Jahirul Islam from the Godarpar Army Camp arrived at Shilchhari High School on Thursday, August 6, 2026 and established a temporary camp. The troops reportedly set up tents outside the school premises for an overnight stay and carried out patrols in different parts of the area during the night.
Reports received on Friday morning, August 7, alleged that army personnel verbally mistreated a teacher of the school after he asked about the expected duration of their stay on the campus.
A fellow teacher, speaking on condition of anonymity and citing the affected teacher, said the school is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, August 9. The teacher reportedly approached the soldiers in a routine manner to ask how long they planned to remain at the school premises. However, the soldiers allegedly responded aggressively and used harsh language toward him over the inquiry.
The sources further alleged that the teacher was subjected to repeated questioning about his alleged connections with the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF).
Local residents expressed concern and anger over the incident, stating that such behavior toward a school teacher was unacceptable and created anxiety among the community.
As of approximately 10:30 AM on Friday, local sources reported that the army team had left the school area and was moving on foot toward Kalagaji-Chowdhury Para.
