Bangladesh Army personnel allegedly searched the home of an indigenous resident in Banarkata Mohannya Para under No. 1 Lakshichhari Union early Thursday, leaving household belongings scattered, according to local residents.
The resident, identified as Dangorshi Chakma, 42, son of the late Ereshing Chakma, lives in Mohannya Para, Lakshichhari.
According to local sources, a group of approximately 35 to 40 army personnel from the Lakshichhari Army Zone arrived in Banarkata at around 3:30 a.m. The soldiers were reportedly accompanied by two masked men.
The troops allegedly surrounded Dangorshi Chakma’s house before entering and conducting a detailed search. During the operation, household belongings were reportedly searched and left scattered throughout the residence.
Family members said the soldiers questioned them about whether any UPDF members were present in the area and where they were staying.
Eyewitnesses claimed they recognized the two masked men accompanying the soldiers as Sujon Chakma, also known as Durjoy, and Nayan. According to local sources, Sujon is from Thalya Para in Lakshichhari Union and is the son of Dhanya Kumar Chakma.
Local residents said the soldiers left the area and returned to their camp later in the morning after reportedly finding nothing illegal inside the house.
The incident has reportedly heightened fear and concern among residents of the area, particularly over the presence of masked individuals during the search operation.
Residents have called on the authorities to stop what they described as harassment of ordinary villagers and to ensure that security operations are conducted in accordance with the law and with respect for residents’ rights.
