Bangladesh Army personnel have been accused of brutally beating an indigenous woman in Ujobaazar, Sajek, in Rangamati District.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2026.

The woman, identified as Samapti Chakma, 30, is the wife of Chibabu Chakma and a resident of Uluchhara village in Sajek, Rangamati.

According to reports, Samapti had traveled to Khagrachhari to care for her sister-in-law, who was ill. She was returning home at around 5 p.m. when she arrived in Ujobaazar, where army personnel were stationed. The soldiers allegedly forced her out of the vehicle and subjected her to a severe beating, leaving her with injuries to various parts of her body.

Earlier that day, at around 11 a.m., army personnel allegedly attacked protesters enforcing a road blockade called by the Sajek Public Rights Protection Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association. The soldiers reportedly launched a heavy baton charge and fired blank shots to disperse the crowd. More than 60 men and women were reportedly injured in the incident.

Local residents suspect that the alleged assault on Samapti Chakma was connected to the earlier confrontation between the army and protesters during the blockade.
