Armed cadres of the PCJSS (Santu) group have been accused of brutally beating an innocent man in the Ugudochari area of Gangaram in Sajek Union, Rangamati.
According to local sources, the incident occurred on Tuesday evening, November 3, 2026.
The victim was identified as Priyo Jyoti Chakma, also known as Chiringe, 35, son of Monu Chandra Chakma, from Gulokmachhara village in Baghaihat, Sajek, Rangamati.
According to the allegations, Priyo Jyoti Chakma was visiting a relative’s home in Ugudochari village, Gangaram, when he was brutally beaten without any apparent reason at around 7 p.m. The assault was allegedly led by Chinu Marma, an armed commander of the Santu group.
Babudhan Chakma, convener of the Sajek People’s Rights Protection Committee, and Natun Joy Chakma, president of the Sajek Karbari Association, strongly condemned and protested the incident.
In a joint statement issued Wednesday, November 4, the two leaders expressed outrage, saying that the Santu group’s continued abuses against ordinary civilians had gone beyond acceptable limits. They alleged that instead of taking effective action against the group, the authorities were allowing such abuses to continue.
The leaders demanded immediate legal action against Chinu Marma and others involved in the incident.
They also questioned how Santu Larma, despite holding a position equivalent to a state minister in the government, was able to operate an armed group and allow it to continue abusing ordinary civilians without being held accountable.
They further called on the government to hold Santu Larma accountable and remove the armed members of the PCJSS (Santu) group from Sajek to free local residents from what they described as a state of captivity.
