ARMED members of the Santu group opened fire on Juron Kumar Tanchangya, 45, a member of the Democratic Youth Forum, early in the morning today as he was on way home after spending the night at his friend’s house in Jurachari.
The incident took place at 5:45amin Jurachari Sadar under Rangamati district. DYF members in the area usually do not sleep at home at night in fear of attacks by Santu group.
About six Santu group men waylaid him and fired on him indiscriminately, Maha Ranjan Chakma, a DYF leader said. However Mr Tanchangya escaped unhurt.
There is a police station near where the incident took place, but the police did nothing to try to nab the terrorists.
Juron originally hails from Sualok Chakma Para in Bandarban district, but now resides in Jurachari.
His father’s name is Rat Mohan Tanchangya.
DYF convener Mithun Chakma has condemned the attack on Juron Kumar Tanchangya and urged the government to arrest the armed members of the Santu group.
