The Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti yesterday kidnapped Rajyo Moni Tanchangya (45) of Rossyabili village under Kaokhali Upazila, from Ghagra bazaar in Rangamati district.
The kidnappers demanded Taka 100,000 for his release, his relatives said, adding that they will contact the JSS men in Assambosti in Rangamati town today.
The incident occurred at 4pm when Mr. Tanchangya went to Ghagra bazaar. He is the elder brother of Charan Singh Tanchangya, a local level leader of the UPDF.
His father Rajendra Tanchangya was killed by erstwhile Shanti Bahiti, the armed wing of the JSS.
UPDF condemned the kidnapping of Mr. Tanchangya and demanded his immediate release.
