UPDF has condemned the kidnapping of one of its supporters in Jurachari in Rangamati district.
A press release issued by UPDF says Kamaleshwar Chakma alias Chadi (age 35) was kidnapped by armed members of the Santu Larma faction of the Jana Samhati Samiti on March 25.
“Mr Chakma was working in his banana plantation when he was kidnapped” the release added. “10 – 12 armed men led by Niloy Chakma kidnapped him at gun point.”
A resident of Lulongchari village, Kamaleshwar is a staunch supporter of the UPDF. His father’s name is Gulmoni Chakma.
UPDF leader Shanti Dev Chakma condemned the kidnapping of Kamaleshwar Chakma as “a cowardly act” and urged the armed gang not to harm him and release him unconditionally.
He alleged that the armed members of Santu Group have been carrying out terrorist activities inclusive of murder, kidnapping and extortion with impunity in a pocket in Jurachari-Barkal area.
He urged the local administration to free the people of the area from the hostage-like situation by taking stern actions against the terrorists.
