Two more UPDF activists arrested in Rangamati

Two members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) have been arrested in Rangamati.

The arrested UPDF men are Pari Bhadra Chakma, 28, son of Bini Mohan Chakma of village Digholcahri in Kudukchari and Indrajit Chakma, 35, son of Neel Kamal Chakma of village Edgoria, Aimachara, Barkal.

According to UPDF sources, they were arrested from the house of Mongol Chakma at 4am today when a group of army personnel raided the village of Masterpara in Balukhali Union under Rangamati Sadar Upazila.

The latest arrest came within 4 days of the arrest of Shishu Moni Chakma, a UPDF member, from Digholibag in Rangamati.

In another incident, a group of army personnel led by Lt. Himen from Subolong camp raided the UPDF office at Subolong bazaar at 6:30am today.

The army broke into the office, carried out searches and tore to pieces the flag of the UPDF.

The soldiers also searched the house of Dombha Chakma, 45, son of Tolo Moni Chakma, near the office.

The Chief Organiser of the UPDF Rangamati district, Shanti Dev Chakma in a statement condemned both the incidents and demanded immediate and unconditional release of the arrested UPDF activists.

He termed the incidents as a blatant interference in the democratic and constitutional rights of the citizens.
