A nine-member convening committee for the Democratic Youth Forum Manikchari Upazila Unit was formed today with Mrasha Thoai Marma and Amal Bikash Chakma elected as convenor and member secretary respectively.
The committee was formed at a youth conference held at Chokhyabil near Manikchari College.
The conference was addressed by Dev Danta Tripura, co-ordinator, UPDF Manikchari unit; Remin Chakma, president, DYF Khagrachari district unit; Subir Chakma, its organising secretary and Chaichui Mong Marma alias Joy, convenor, DYF Laxmichari unit.
They urged the Jumma youths to play a leading role in the autonomy struggle and resist conspiracies to corrupt them.
“A vested interest group is trying to corrupt the young generation by pushing it on to the path to addiction. It is making all kinds of drugs and alcoholic drinks available to the Jumma youths.” Dev Danta Tripura said.
The speakers vowed to step up the autonomy struggle of the Jumma people and said “nothing short of an autonomous status for the CHT will be acceptable”.
