The Army reportedly attempted to break into the office of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), located in Ujobazar in the Sajek union of Baghaichari Upazila, Rangamati district.
The incident occurred yesterday, Wednesday (October 8, 2025), in the afternoon.
Shopkeepers and eyewitnesses in Ujobazar stated that, like every day, the leaders and activists of the UPDF’s affiliated organizations opened the office on Wednesday. Shortly after they closed the office and left at 4:00 PM, Army personnel from the Baghaihat Zone (14 Bengal) arrived in Ujobazar in two pickup trucks. They then attempted to break into the UPDF office.
Separately, a local Bkash agent reported that Army personnel came to the market yesterday and, despite their reluctance, took photos of some of them. At that time, the soldiers asked him about where he sends money via Bkash, and specifically if he sends money to UPDF members.
The leadership of the UPDF’s Sajek Unit strongly condemned the Army’s attempt to break into the UPDF office, terming it a blatant interference with democratic rights.
