A widespread military operation in the hills of Sajek and the Kajalong river valley in Rangamati has sparked fear among the local population. The operation, which began on October 18, is still ongoing.

More than 150 army personnel are stationed in the villages of Jampara, Hagara Hijing, and Sheltai in the Sajek hills. Additionally, over 100 soldiers from the Baghaichari zone and 40 from the Gangaram Lakshmichari camp are conducting operations in the Kajalong valley, specifically in the areas of Chalyatuli, Lambabagh, and Bhuyochari.

Local residents fear that the military, under the pretext of conducting arms recovery operations, may stage incidents to justify the expansion of military camps in the area. They also express concern about potential human rights violations, including harassment of civilians and searches of homes.
