In Kaukhali of Rangamati, the army has been conducting military drills on the field of a school while classes are ongoing, which has reportedly disrupted students’ studies.
According to reports, early Wednesday morning (November 5, 2025), army personnel from the Rangamati Zone and Ghagra Sub-Zone arrived in various areas of Kaukhali’s Ghagra Union in several vehicles and took up positions. They fired several blank rounds, creating panic among residents, and conducted a search at a Buddhist monastery before setting up positions at several locations, including Harangi Para High School.
Currently, a team of 65 soldiers under the command of a Major from the Rangamati Zone is stationed in Levapara village, while another 65 soldiers led by Senior Warrant Officer Salam from the Ghagra Sub-Zone are reportedly positioned at Harangi Para High School, disrupting the ongoing classes.
Sources say that after conducting a military drill on the school field, part of the army team has been stationed on the third floor of the school building. Another team has reportedly continued drills on the school grounds.
Earlier in the morning, army members took positions at Harangi Para Refugee Para Government Primary School, Harangi Para Buddhist Monastery, Harangi Para High School, Chelachara, and Noa Adam, and also searched the Shanti Priya Buddhist monastery in Levapara.
Around 10:00 a.m., they moved on foot to Chelachara sawmill and the Chelachara passenger shed to take positions. Later, at about 12:30 p.m., they returned by Mahindra vehicles and on foot to Harangi Para School and its field.
During this time, Senior Warrant Officer Salman reportedly questioned some students, asking, “Where are the UPDF members?” The students replied, “We don’t know.”
The army’s presence and military drills during school hours—disrupting students’ classes—have sparked anger and discontent among local residents. Locals have strongly condemned such actions by the army.
