Pradip Chakma, 55, an organizer of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF), who had been staying in Chattogram for medical treatment, was reportedly detained by members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) late at night.

According to available information, at approximately 12:00 a.m. on Thursday night, March 12, 2026, a team of RAB personnel took him from the residence of a relative in the Agrabad area of Chattogram. He had been staying there while undergoing medical treatment. His wife and daughter were present with him at the time.

Pradip Chakma is a resident of Kattoli village in Longadu Upazila of Rangamati District. His father, the late Chandra Bikash Chakma, was reportedly killed by armed members of the JSS.

Sources said that around 20 to 25 RAB personnel arrived at the house around midnight and asked the homeowner about Pradip Chakma’s whereabouts. They requested that he come outside. When he came out of the room, the RAB members informed him that they had come to take him with them.

He was then taken downstairs and placed into a vehicle. At that time, RAB personnel also told his wife to accompany them, but later left her behind.

Before leaving, they told his wife to contact Bayezid Police Station at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, for further information.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether he has officially been handed over to Bayezid Police Station.

It is worth noting that Pradip Chakma has been suffering from long-term health complications and has not yet fully recovered. According to medical advice, he had been continuing treatment.
