A large deployment of Bangladesh Army personnel in Panchari, Khagrachhari, has reportedly sparked fear and anxiety among local residents.
According to local sources, around 3 a.m. Wednesday, approximately 100 to 120 Bangladesh Army personnel arrived at Panchari Sub-Zone in 10 vehicles from the Khagrachhari Brigade. From there, under the leadership of Major Shabbir, 70 to 80 soldiers in seven vehicles reportedly proceeded through Nicher Pujgang and raided Jubanashwa Para. Another 30 to 35 soldiers in three vehicles reportedly traveled via Manipur and carried out a raid in Jagapara of the Taraban area.
Sources further claimed that several masked vigilantes accompanied the army personnel during the operation.
As of the time of filing, Bangladesh Army personnel remained stationed at Rajkumar Para and the Jagapara Samity mango orchard in Chengi Union. Local residents alleged that army personnel were preventing people from moving freely within the area.
Meanwhile, residents alleged that an armed group belonging to the PCJSS (Santu) faction has been staying for the past month in Korlachhari, Chamme Adam, and Ramtanu Para under Baburapara in Logang Union, yet the Bangladesh Army has not conducted any operations in those locations. They also claimed that, just a day earlier, an armed group from the PCJSS (Santu) faction carried out an armed patrol in the Baburapara area, and that Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel present nearby did not take any action against them.
