A SEVEN-YEAR old Jumma girl has been subjected to an attempted rape by a Bengali settler in Tabalchari under Matiranga Upazila of Khagrachari district.
The incident occurred at 1:30pm today, Thursday, when the girl, a class two student of Tabalchari P K Government Primary School, was on her way back home after attending classes.
When she reached Ripru Tila, between Kadamtoli and Masterpara in Bornal Union, a settler youth grabbed and forced her into a jungle and then tried to rape her.
However, a local Marma boy witnessed the scene, and he immediately gathered his friends and then rushed to the spot, while shouting at the settler youth.
Sensing imminent danger, the culprit ran away, leaving behind his flip-flops. The Jumma youths then rescued the girl and escorted her home in Kadamtoli village. She is from Chakma community.
The girl’s parents and local elders have informed the local Union Council chairman, Md. Ali Akbar, about the incident, it is learnt.
However, no action has been taken till the writing of this report at 4pm.
