Khagrachhari: The rape and murder of a Chakma woman at Kamalchhari village in Sadar upazila sparked protests in Khagrachhari district yesterday. Leaders of Hill Women’s Federation, the front organization of United Peoples Democratic Front and hundreds of local people at a protest rally in the district town demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the criminals. The victim, identified as Sabita Chakma wife of Dev Ratan Chakma Kamalchhari village in Sadar upazila, was murdered allegedly by three Bengali people on Saturday.
Speakers at the rally said, the violence against the minority and indigenous women is rising in the district as police, in most cases, fail to arrest the criminals.
They urged government to take immediate steps to ensure justice in all incidents of violence against ethnic women in the CHT region. ………………
