Kidnapped Jumma refugee leader released for ransom

THE kidnapped Returnee Jumma Refugee leader, Nanda Joy Chakma, has been released after payment of a reported Taka 20 lakhs ($ 25,000) ransom.

An armed gang loyal to Santu Larma had kidnapped him on 16 June from his home in Modhu Mangal Para of Panchari Upazila.

He was released five days later on Saturday, 21 June, from Keshto Moni Para, a Jumma village neighbouring on Indian border, 15 kilometers north of Pujgang.

His family members confirmed his release to chtnews.com, saying that he had returned home at 8:30pm yesterday.

So far, no case has been filed with the police in this connection.
