THE army-backed Nobyo Mukhosh Bahini vigilantes attempted to kidnap four Union Council chairmen and seven members from Naniachar Bazaar Ghat in Rangamati district on Wednesday, January 24.
The elected public representatives were returning from a meeting on law and order situation held at UNO office when the incident took place.
When informed, the police from nearby Naniachar Thana rushed there and rescued them. The police arrested two members of the NMB.
The vigilantes led by Zhimit and NIvik made the attempt at about 1 p. m., the victims alleged.
The victims are Supon Chakma, Chairman of Sabekyong Union; Jyotilal Chakma, Chairman of Naniachar Sadar UP; Promod Khisha, Chairman of Burighat UP; Amol Kanti Chakma, Chairman of Ghilachari UP; Purno Kumar Chakma (Ward No. 3, Naniachar UP); Babul Chakma (Ward No. 4, Naniachar UP); Topon Chakma (Ward No. 6, Naniachar UP); Jibon Chakma (Ward No. 3, Sabekyong UP); Ripen Chakma (Ward No. 2, Sabekyong UP); Tapomoy Chakma (Ward No. 7, Sabekyong UP) and Chompa Chakma (Ward No. 7, 8, 9, Women Seat).
