The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) allegedly harassed an elderly man from Nangel Para in Ramgarh Upazila, Khagrachari, after summoning him to their temporary camp for questioning.
It is reported that today, Wednesday (December 10, 2025), at approximately 3:00 PM, the elderly man [name withheld] was telephoned by the BGB and asked to report to their temporary camp located at a place known as Motalleb’s Garden (Motaleber Bagan).
According to the instructions, when he arrived, he was subjected to interrogations and harassment by 3-4 men in plain clothes wearing lungis (traditional lower part garment for a Bengali male), in the presence of BGB members.
The victimized elder stated that he did not know who the plainclothes individuals were.
He further mentioned that during the interrogation, the plainclothes individuals and the BGB members harshly demanded to know from him: “Where do the terrorists fire from at night? Why is panic created in the area?”
In response, he said, “The sound of firing came from the direction of Md. Motalleb’s Garden; everyone heard it last night.”
At this point, they reportedly reprimanded him and said that a call came from Dhaka yesterday asking about the ‘blank fire incident’. They also claimed that the news published by CHT News regarding the matter was false.
However, the elder stood firm on his statement and reiterated, “Everyone in the area heard the sound of gunfire from the direction of Md. Motalleb’s Garden.”
Later, the plainclothes individuals and the BGB members present warned him, saying, “If you see terrorists, you must report it immediately.”
It is reported that BGB members are still stationed at the mentioned location (Motalleb’s Garden).
Locals fear that BGB members may themselves be firing ‘blank shots’ and subsequently oppressing the general public under the guise of searching for so-called ‘terrorists’.
