Reports indicate that a group of armed members of the JSS Santu Group and a unit of the Bangladesh Army are currently positioned in the Bhagaban Tila and Bandarshing Para areas along the Panchari–Matiranga border in Khagrachari.
According to sources, on the evening of 2 January, around 40–50 armed members of the Santu Group set out from Birojoy Para in Machyachara, Panchari, toward Bhagaban Tila. The following morning, on 3 January, they entered the Bhagaban Tila and Bandarshing Para areas. Throughout the day, they remained stationed at a distance of approximately 50–60 yards from a BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) camp.
It has been reported that the armed members of the Santu Group are still present in the area.
Meanwhile, today (4 January) at around 11:00 a.m., a contingent of 30–35 army personnel traveled in two vehicles via the border road of Rupsen Para in Panchari to Bandarshing Para, where they joined BGB personnel. Information suggests that the army personnel went there to provide security to the armed members of the Santu Group.
Local residents have stated that the armed members of the Santu Group are currently positioned about 70–80 yards away from the army and BGB positions.
Due to the presence of both the army and the Santu Group, fear and anxiety have spread among the local population.
