The army is reportedly carrying out widespread operations and harassing students, youths, and ordinary people under the pretext of questioning in the Swanirbhor area of Khagrachari Sadar.
According to sources, from Friday morning (16 January 2026), the army began heightened activity in the Swanirbhor Bazaar and Tufa School areas of Khagrachari Sadar. Local residents alleged that army personnel have been going from shop to shop, questioning people—including students and young men—and harassing them.
Shortly before this report was filed, it was learned that army personnel got down from their vehicles carrying batons in front of Tufa School and moved into the Swanirbhor area, where they took up position.
Local residents said that such activities by the army have created anxiety and fear among the public.
