Since April 3, approximately 80 personnel of the Bangladesh Army have been conducting an operation in Sajek Union under Baghaichari Upazila in Rangamati district, targeting members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF). On the first day of the operation, 40 personnel from the Baghaihat Zone were deployed to Kozotoli Government Primary School.

On April 5, at around midday, an additional 40 personnel from the same zone joined the operation. Later that day, 27 members of the initial deployment moved approximately three kilometers north to Bhuochari Government Primary School.

Early on April 6, a further 27 personnel from the second group joined them, bringing the number of personnel stationed in that area to 52. The combined unit is currently advancing toward Midingachari village, located an estimated 2 to 3 kilometers north of Bhuochari.

Sajek Union is widely recognized as a stronghold of the UPDF. Military operations in this area have been recurrent and, according to local sources, have at times involved collaboration with the Santu Larma faction of the Parbatya Chattogram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS).

The ongoing operation has raised concerns among local residents, particularly regarding the presence of armed forces in and around civilian spaces, including educational institutions. Such deployments may heighten risks for civilians, disrupt daily life, and contribute to an atmosphere of fear and insecurity. The use of public facilities, such as schools, for military purposes also raises serious concerns under international human rights and humanitarian standards, particularly regarding the protection of civilian infrastructure and the safety of children.
