A 32-member Bangladesh Army unit has been stationed at Hatimara Government Primary School in Kolompoti Union, Kaukhali Upazila, Rangamati, for the past two days, according to local sources.
The unit arrived at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, from the nearby Godarpara Army Camp, bringing supplies and equipment. Personnel have since been conducting patrols in the surrounding area.
Residents of No. 1 Hatimara and No. 2 Hatimara villages allege that soldiers have been collecting personal information from local households, including the names of residents and the number of families in each home. No official explanation has been provided for the information-gathering exercise.
Community members have expressed concern and apprehension over the data collection. A local source indicated that the unit is expected to remain at the school through Saturday, June 20.
