A pregnant woman was killed after a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) vehicle reportedly collided with a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw on the Sajek Road in Rangamati on Saturday morning, according to local sources.
The victim was identified as Sumanti Chakma, 35, wife of Mbapon Chakma, a resident of Dhab Adam village in Sajek.
Family members and local residents said that at around 10:00 a.m., Sumanti was traveling to Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital for a routine prenatal medical check-up. The collision occurred in the Machalong 14 Kilometer area when a BGB vehicle allegedly struck the auto-rickshaw in which she was traveling.
She sustained critical injuries in the crash. Local residents immediately arranged to take her to Khagrachhari District Sadar Hospital, but she died on the way.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have called for a thorough investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision. They also urged the authorities to take appropriate legal action based on the findings of the investigation.
