A BENGALI settler reportedly made an attempt to rape a 10-year-old school girl while she was on her way back home from school in Burigahat Union under Naniachar Upazila, Rangamati district on Sunday, March 13.
According to local sources, the victim – a student of class three in Poli Para Government Primary School – was alone on the way and Md. Zakir (30) son of Md. Jalil from Islampur took advantage of it.
He tried to grab the girl who ran faster to save herself and shouted for help.
After running a few distance after her, Zakir, who works as a day labourer, stopped chasing her when he saw two local women on the road and ran back.
The police was informed about the incident, but so far no action has been taken to arrest Zakir.
