A team of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted a search at the home of a hill (indigenous) resident in Gorukata village of Ramgarh upazila in Khagrachari district. The incident has caused panic among the family members.
According to sources, at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday (November 12, 2025), a group of about 14 BGB members from the Khagrabil BGB camp arrived in Gorukata village of Ramgarh upazila in a truck. They surrounded and searched the house of local resident Rajendra Tripura (47), son of Bisia Tripura.
During the raid, Rajendra Tripura was not at home. In his absence, BGB members questioned his wife, asking, “Is Rajendra associated with the UPDF? Where has he gone? When will he return home?” and other similar questions.
Rajendra Tripura later told this reporter, “Without any reason, the BGB surrounded and searched my house and harassed my wife by asking many questions. We are living in fear and anxiety because of this.”
Meanwhile, at the same time, nine settler Bengalis who accompanied the BGB entered the nearby tea garden area of Gorukata Para on three motorcycles.
They went to several houses belonging to hill residents, demanded to see land documents, and asked questions such as, “Whose land is this? Who gave it to you? Did the UPDF give this land?”
Local residents said the settler Bengalis told villagers that they would return in the evening before leaving.
Around 1:00 p.m., both the BGB personnel and the settler Bengalis left the area, according to local witnesses.
Several hill residents who were present said that before leaving, the settlers threatened them, saying, “Hill people cannot live in this rehabilitated area. Everyone will be driven out.”
The incident has created intense fear and concern among the hill residents of the area. They fear that the settler Bengalis (Muslim) may launch an attack on them at any time, and they have therefore urged the administration to take effective action on the matter.
