Two people, including a United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) organizer, were reportedly detained by Bangladesh Army personnel during a pre-dawn raid on a residence in Jagannath Para, Pakshimura, in Sindukchhari Union of Guimara Upazila, Khagrachhari.
The incident reportedly took place at around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in an area under the jurisdiction of the Mahalchhari Army Zone.
The detainees were identified as Sunanta Chakma, alias Bikash, 55, son of Pranhari Chakma, of Karalyachhari Mukh, Ward No. 4, Kayanghat Union, Mahalchhari; and Shimul Chakma, 30, son of Rangu Chakma, of Jagannath Para, Pakshimura, Ward No. 3, Sindukchhari Union, Guimara.
According to local sources, Sunanta Chakma, a UPDF organizer, had stayed overnight at Shimul Chakma’s residence after completing organizational activities in the area on Friday.
At around 4:00 a.m., a group of Bangladesh Army personnel reportedly arrived at the residence from the Mahalchhari Army Zone and Dhumonighat Army Camp, surrounded the house, and conducted a search.
The soldiers subsequently detained Sunanta Chakma and Shimul Chakma and took them to the Mahalchhari Army Zone, according to the sources.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no information indicating that the two men had been handed over to the police or formally charged with any offence.
