Two Bawm Villagers Allegedly Detained in Thanchi; One Turned Over to Police

Two Bawm villagers were allegedly detained by the Bangladesh Army in Thangdoai Para and Serkor Para of Thanchi Upazila in Bandarban, according to local sources.

The detainees were identified as Chomkhup Bawm, 65, of Thangdoai Para and Jouthoang Bawm, 55, of Serkor Para.

According to the allegations, a group of army personnel took the two men from their homes on the night of Thursday, July 2, 2026.

The incident has reportedly renewed fear among local residents, while the families of the detainees remain concerned about their whereabouts and safety.

Of the two detainees, Jouthan Bawm (whose actual name is Jouthoang Bawm) was reported by several media outlets on Saturday as having been detained with alleged firearms and ammunition. However, the whereabouts and condition of the other detainee, Chomkhup Bawm, remain unknown.

Media reports also said that army personnel turned Jouthoang (Jouthan) Bawm over to officers at Thanchi Police Station on Saturday.

Officer-in-Charge Kanan Sarkar of Thanchi Police Station told reporters that the required legal procedures had been completed and that the detainee had been produced before a court.
